League action is back this weekend with Portsmouth, Everton and Chelsea battling for points as we head into the business end of The IKO EAFL season.
There’s just two weekends left in the competition and Pompey are the team to beat after winning The IKO EAFA Cup, their third trophy in 2024.
A hat-trick from Kirk Hughes and goals from TJ Yates, Jamie Tregaskiss and Connor Cruise saw the impressive south coast side win all three games in the cup last month. Pompey will provide a stern test for their opponents on Saturday (24th August) as they hunt for this season’s final piece of silverware.
Aiming to pip Portsmouth to the title are Champions League bound Everton. The Amputoffees competitive rivalry with Pompey makes their fixture at 16.30pm a must watch.
Everton closed the gap on Portsmouth to just goal difference in May’s IKO EAFL fixtures following a 3-2 win and they have invaluable experience to call upon after winning last years league trophy.
Liam Burbridge fired in seven goals in The IKO EAFA Cup and his link-up play with Rhyce Ramsden is important to Everton’s title ambitions. Defenders Sean Jackson and Martin Heald are also key in keeping out this weekend’s opposing attackers.
A youthful Chelsea side were amongst the goals in the July drizzle as they fielded a number of players who progressed through EAFA’s Junior Programme. Sofyan Filali and Rio Woolf are just two of the youngsters making waves and getting themselves on the scoresheet for The Londoners.
Harry Ash and Kieran Lambourne are key players for Chelsea and the England internationals will provide vital leadership on the field for this exciting squad. They could have a huge say in where the title goes at the end of the season.
