“We want to win more silverware” – Everton’s Sean Jackson has his heart set of trophies ahead of the new IKO EAFL season

The new season kicks off this weekend at The Home of Amputee Football and all four competitors will be hoping to start strong. One of those teams are Everton, who are the current holders of the IKO England Amputee Football League title and their defender Sean Jackson is on the hunt to win more.

Reflecting on last season, Jackson said: “overall we performed well, although we set our targets high and hoped to win everything we could, we did ultimately fall short in a few of the cup competitions.

“But towards the latter stages of the season, we showed great resilience and got some good results that proved important in us winning the league and qualifying for the Champions League.”

The target for the Amputoffees has always been to win every competition they compete in and despite not achieving this feat last year, the standards have certainly not fell ahead of the new campaign.

Sean Jackson said, “our aim is always to do better, we want to be competitive and we want to win more silverware.

“We have that hunger to achieve what no one else has and win the quadruple.”

Everton’s squad are mostly local to each other and their growing team chemistry is something that Jackson highlights as a unique aspect that could take them ahead of their rivals.

Jacko (Sean’s nickname) said: “we have the squad to achieve what we want, it’s whether we can go that extra mile this year.

“We lost out to Portsmouth just by a goal or two on a couple of key occasions last season and I think some small changes could really make a big difference in those important games.

“We have the advantage of being one of the only clubs that have players local to each other so we can train together on a regular basis but we need to put that to good use.”

The clock is ticking as the league edges closer to kick off this Saturday and Jackson can’t wait to get the season started and is relishing the chance to perform in what should be a more competitive league.

“I can’t wait to start, it’s been a long wait, especially for the men’s national team players who have had a while out,” Sean Said.

“I’m personally excited to face Newcastle who will be joining the league and a stronger looking Chelsea side who will pose some new problems and push us further,” he added.
